Restylan can also be used to enhance the lips and make them more plump and full.

How Restylane Works

What Can I Expect During the Treatment?

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding treatment with Restylane:

  • Which Restylane product is most appropriate for my treatment?
  • What can be done to help me feel comfortable during my treatment?
  • How long will the procedure last?
  • What are the risks associated with Restylane treatment?
  • What care is recommended after Restylane treatment?

The treatment procedure usually takes less than an hour. This of course, can vary from person to person, but there is generally very minimal downtime, and you can go back to your normal activities immediately after treatment. We will discuss using topical pain medication to ensure you are as comfortable as possible during the procedure.

The treatment area will be cleaned with an antiseptic and prepped for treatment. Restylane dermal filler is then injected into the skin using an ultra-fine needle. The amount of Restylane injected into a site will depend on how much is required to get the expected results.

What You Can Expect After Treatment

Restylane treatment is considered a relatively painless procedure. We will take steps to help minimize discomfort during your treatment. Nevertheless, some patients still experience one or more of the following symptoms following their injections:

  • Redness
  • Pain
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Itching
  • Lumps and bumps

If used on the back of the hands to get rid of wrinkles, you might experience itching at the injection site. All these side effects are temporary and last for less than a week in the nasolabial folds and less than two weeks in the lips. If you are less than 36 years of age, there is also a higher chance that you may experience swelling.

Post-treatment you will be advised to apply cold compresses to reduce any swelling. You should also avoid exposure to heat, sunlight, sunlamps, sun beds and sunbathing. Recovery time is normally less than a day, and you can resume normal activities as soon as you feel better.
