If you’re over the age of 16, it’s safe to assume you know what “Botox” is. What you may not know is that Botox has only been around since 1996 and has still manage to make huge changes in the cosmetic world since its arrival to the medical and cosmetic world. What was once used to slow down the aging process is now used to help women who suffer from horrific foot pain from wearing high heels or to help with migraines. In the last 25 years, the name “Botox” may not be the injection you receive. As science has progressed, the cosmetic market has introduced Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveua. All four are effective. I’m going to break down the four types for you but keep these things in mind as you read them. Each of the four types are safe and effective. Some show results a few days sooner than others, but even that is dependent on your genetics. Give yourself a full two weeks before you decide you’re happy with the result of the injection or not. Science shows us that the more product that is injected, the longer the results last. Obviously, too much can be detrimental so it’s imperative you trust a medical professional to know the unit amount your muscle and skin type needs. Too much of any of them can cause droopy eyelids. Some clients prefer to have limited expression, removing all wrinkles possible. Others prefer just a touch-up. Some people wonder “what age should I get Botox?” and to that I can tell you that there is no set age that is the right time to start. I’ve seen women in their 50’s with absolutely beautiful skin and the smallest number of wrinkles. I’ve also seen women in their 20’s who have deep wrinkles and lines. The “right time” for Botox is all dependent on the strength of each individual person’s muscles.

 

Typically, Botox is used to treat areas of the face that have (and are prone to more) wrinkles from muscle activity. Typically, lasting 3-4 months, Botox has been around the longest and is well trusted by so many people. Botox has been treating far more than facial wrinkles for a lot of years. Botox is a great treatment for ailments such as an overactive bladder, excessive sweating crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and laugh lines. If you are pregnant or nursing, you’ll want to consult your OBGYN before the use of any Botox treatment.  Botox is best used to treat smaller areas. Typically, those who receive Botox treatments see results in 4-7 days.

 

Dysport is commonly used to treat moderate to severe frown lines or glabellar lines (the deep lines that come between your eyebrows). Dysport is showing to last an average of 4-6 months. Dysport is more diluted than Botox is, causing it to spread quicker and be a great option for a larger area of treatment. Most clients have reported seeing a great result in as quickly as 2 days.

 

Xeomin treats the same facial areas as Botox does, it is most commonly used to treat moderate to severe forehead wrinkles and frown lines. Xeomin has also had great success in treating cervical dystonia and excessive salivation. Its longevity is similar to that of Botox, typically needing another injection to occur between 3-6 months after the first treatment.

 

Juveau is what everyone is talking about these days. You’ve probably seen it on social media as “#newtox. Unlike Botox, it is only approved for cosmetic treatment areas – injected between the eyebrows, at the corner of the eyes to stop wrinkles and can also be incredibly effective at smoothing out current deep wrinkles on the forehead. Juveau also was created without many of the unnecessary proteins that Botox contains and is absorbed quicker. Like it’s three similar treatments, it’s average span is 3-6 months before needing another a treatment.
